How Much Does Lawn Mowing Cost in Auckland?

What lawn mowing actually costs in Auckland in 2026 — typical prices by section size, what should be included, and the hidden extras to watch for on a quote.

By Greensward NZ Limited · ·

Most Auckland households pay between $45 and $90 per visit for regular lawn mowing. The range is wide because "lawn mowing" covers everything from a 60m² townhouse courtyard to a half-hectare lifestyle block, and because what's included varies enormously between operators.

What should be included in the price

A fair Auckland mowing quote covers all of the following. If it doesn't, you're comparing two different jobs:

  • The mow itself, at an appropriate height for the grass and season
  • Line trimming around fences, trees, beds and the letterbox
  • Hard edging along concrete paths and driveways
  • Blowing paths, decks and driveways clear afterwards
  • Removal of clippings from the property

Where quotes quietly get more expensive

  • Green waste charged per bag or per bin on top of the visit price.
  • Edging quoted as an extra rather than included — it's roughly a third of the labour on a small lawn.
  • Callout or travel fees, which are common for outer areas like Beachlands and Whitford.
  • Minimum charges that make a small courtyard cost the same as a full section.
  • A cheap headline price for a monthly cut, where the grass is always too long and the result is a scalped lawn.

Why regular costs less than occasional

A lawn on a weekly or fortnightly run is quick — the grass is short, one pass does it, and there's little waste to remove. The same lawn left six weeks needs two passes, produces four times the clippings, and takes double the time. Almost every operator prices accordingly, so regular service usually works out cheaper per month than occasional cuts, and the lawn ends up in better condition.

Quick answers

How much does lawn mowing cost in Auckland in 2026?

Most Auckland households pay $45–$90 per visit for regular residential lawn mowing. A small suburban lawn of 100–250m² typically costs $45–$60, and a standard 250–500m² section $55–$80, including edging and green waste removal.

Is it cheaper to mow monthly instead of weekly?

Usually not, per month. A lawn left four to six weeks needs two passes and produces several times the clippings, so most operators charge two to three times a regular cut for it. Regular service is generally cheaper over a year and leaves the lawn in much better condition.

Should green waste removal be included in a lawn mowing quote?

It should be. Watch for quotes that charge per bag or per bin on top of the visit price, or that price edging separately — edging is around a third of the labour on a small lawn, so excluding it makes a quote look cheaper than it is.
